The equation for calculating carbon is relatively simple:
Activity x Carbon emission factor = Total emissions
Qflow calculates the waste outcome by connecting with the Environment Agency database. This gives the % disposal, recovery, recycling etc, associated with waste movements from the construction. site.
Learn how Qflow calculates the waste outcome using the Waste Hierarchy
Each of these waste outcomes results in a different level of carbon emissions, as does the type of
waste being managed. We take the EWC code & facility data from your waste tickets and apply the
relevant carbon conversion factor, depending on the waste outcome the facility has reported.
The BEIS GHG conversion factors are used to calculate the carbon associated with these waste
processes.
Disclaimer: The Qflow dashboard(s) aims to provide the most accurate reflection of carbon emissions based on data captured through the Qflow product. We have outlined our methodology and sources, for transparency with our users. However, we are not a carbon consultancy or qualified carbon specialists, therefore it is important to consider this data in context with other carbon data sources used across the organisation, as well as within your wider reporting frameworks.
